Tokoh agama dan birokrat senior, Dr H Abd Wahid Thahir, yang juga mantan Kepala Kantor Wilayah (Kanwil) Kementerian Agama (Kemenag) Sulsel, telah berpulang ke Rahmatullah pada Rabu, 2 Juli 2025, pukul 04.00 WITA di Rumah Sakit Unhas Makassar.
Kabar wafatnya Wahid Thahir pertama kali disampaikan oleh Humas Kanwil Kemenag Sulsel, Mawardi Siradj, melalui grup WhatsApp internal.
“Innaa lillahi wa innaa ilaihi raji’un. Telah berpulang ke rahmatullah Dr. H. Abd. Wahid Thahir, M.Ag (Mantan Kakanwil Kemenag Prov. Sulsel) pada hari Kamis, 02 Juli 2025 pukul 04.00 WITA (dini hari) di Rumah Sakit UNHAS Makassar,” tulis Mawardi.
Berita duka ini mengundang rasa kehilangan mendalam dari berbagai kalangan, termasuk dari Wali Kota Parepare, H Tasming Hamid. Mendengar kabar wafatnya almarhum, Tasming Hamid langsung menyampaikan duka cita mendalam dan segera menuju rumah duka yang berada di Jalan Lagaligo, Kota Parepare.
Tidak hanya melayat, Wali Kota Tasming juga turut menyolatkan jenazah almarhum di Masjid Al Abrar, Kelurahan Lapadde, bersama keluarga, kerabat, dan para pelayat lainnya.
Kehadiran Tasming menjadi simbol penghormatan pemerintah dan masyarakat Parepare atas pengabdian dan kontribusi almarhum selama hidupnya.
“Kami atas nama pribadi dan jajaran pemerintah kota Parepare turut berduka cita mendalam atas kepergian Almarhum. Semoga Allah SWT menerima segala amal ibadah beliau, mengampuni segala dosa, dan menempatkannya di tempat terbaik di sisi-Nya. Aamiin,” ucap Tasming Hamid.
Dr H Abd Wahid Thahir dikenal sebagai sosok yang berdedikasi dalam pengembangan pendidikan dan keagamaan di Sulawesi Selatan.
Ia menjabat sebagai Kepala Kanwil Kemenag Sulsel periode 4 Maret 2015 hingga 27 Juli 2018, dan merupakan pejabat ke-18 yang pernah memimpin institusi tersebut.
Sebelum menjabat sebagai Kakanwil, Wahid Thahir juga pernah mengemban amanah sebagai Kepala Bidang Pondok Pesantren (Kabid Pontren) Kanwil Kemenag Sulsel.
Setelah menyelesaikan tugas sebagai Kakanwil, almarhum melanjutkan pengabdiannya di dunia pendidikan sebagai dosen di UIN Alauddin Makassar dan Universitas Islam Makassar (UIM) Al Gazali.
Kepergian Wahid Thahir menjadi kehilangan besar, terutama bagi dunia pendidikan Islam dan birokrasi keagamaan di Sulsel. Ucapan belasungkawa dan doa terus mengalir dari berbagai kalangan yang pernah bersentuhan dengan sosok almarhum semasa hidup.
