Dukungan itu diwujudkan melalui penyerahan bantuan benih jagung unggulan Jagung Jago Unhas (JJUH) dan Day Old Chick (DOC) Ayam Allop kepada para petani setempat. Penyerahan bantuan ini dirangkaikan dengan kegiatan tanam perdana jagung yang berlangsung pada Rabu pagi, 14 Mei 2025, di Jalan BTN Sao Asri, Kelurahan Lapadde, Kecamatan Ujung, Kota Parepare.
Dalam sambutannya, Wali Kota Tasming Hamid menegaskan komitmen pemerintah daerah untuk terus mendorong kemajuan sektor pertanian dan peternakan sebagai bagian dari penguatan ketahanan pangan dan penggerak ekonomi lokal.
“Kami sangat mengapresiasi langkah Unhas yang hadir langsung di tengah masyarakat dengan inovasi nyata. Benih jagung yang diberikan ini telah melalui uji balistik dan terbukti unggul di berbagai daerah. Kami yakin, hasilnya akan optimal di Parepare,” ujar Tasming.
selain benih jagung, Tasming juga menyambut baik kehadiran DOC Ayam Allop, inovasi unggulan dari Unhas yang dinilai memiliki keunggulan genetik dibandingkan ayam kampung biasa maupun ayam ras. Ia menilai, inovasi tersebut sejalan dengan semangat Kota Parepare untuk mewujudkan kemandirian pangan.
“Kami ingin petani dan peternak di Parepare tidak sekadar bertahan, tetapi mampu berkembang dan berdaya saing. Bantuan ini merupakan bentuk penguatan dalam mewujudkan visi tersebut,” tambahnya.
Turut hadir dalam kegiatan ini, Kapolres Parepare AKBP Arman Muis, Rektor Unhas Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa, Staf Khusus Kementerian Pertanian Prof. Mohammad Arsyad, unsur Forkopimda, serta 40 petani penerima bantuan. Di akhir sambutannya, Tasming menyampaikan terima kasih kepada seluruh pihak yang telah mendukung agenda strategis ketahanan pangan di Parepare.
